About Us

Our 2010-2011 season included talks from David Cairns, Anthony Negus of the Longborough Festival Opera and WNO, and Richard Farnes of Opera North and we are currently enjoying an abundance of Wagner performances. As the bi-centenary of Wagner’s birth approaches we know that Longborough, Opera North and the Halle will continue to delight us with their Ring projects and give us much to enjoy and to discuss. Our meetings this year have ranged from Neil Howlett’s study of great Wagner singers of the past to President Joan Burns’ introduction to the importance of Franz Liszt to 19th century music in general and the career of Richard Wagner in particular. In 2012 we focus on ‘Parsifal’ – an opera that deeply divides those who enjoy Wagner’s music.
